Thinking about starting?

You do not need to know how far you will go before taking your first step. Begin with a safe session, realistic expectations, and people who respect your pace.

01

A guide for late starters.

Start with the questions that matter most—what to wear, how to stay safe, and how to choose a first session that feels right for you.

Dress for comfort and movement.

Choose thin, flexible layers so you can stay warm without feeling restricted as you begin to move.

  • Base layer: a fitted top and leggings or trousers that move easily.
  • Warm layer: a light fleece or thermal top you can take off.
  • For the rink: thin athletic socks and stretchy gloves; avoid bulky coats and scarves.
02

Build an adult-friendly skating directory.

We are gathering community knowledge about rinks, public ice time, adult classes, and patient instruction. Every listing will be reviewed before it is shared.

03

Find your community.

Skating feels different when you know there are people learning alongside you. Find a space to practise, ask questions, and share the small wins.

Skating activities

Look for public sessions, group practice, and local ice-time meetups.

Local groups

Connect with people who understand what it is like to start later.

Keep in touch

Stories, resources, and future activity updates will be shared here.
